The Seoul Jung-gu (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) Talent Development Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Park Jang-seon) held the 2nd ‘Challenge! Global Exploration Team’ inauguration ceremony on December 27. The 10 selected high school students will explore the eastern part of the United States from January 8 to January 15 to develop global capabilities.
Seoul Jung-gu held the 2nd inauguration ceremony of the *’Challenge! Global Exploration Team’*, an overseas cultural experience scholarship program aimed at fostering global talent, on December 27. The event was attended by 10 members of the expedition team, their parents, and related parties, taking the first step toward overseas exploration.
◆ Experiences and expectations of the first expedition members
At the inauguration ceremony on this day, Oh Jun-seo (Jangchung High School, 3rd year), who participated as a member of the first expedition team, attended and shared his experiences. He said, “Last year, through the exploration of the eastern part of the United States, my perspective on career paths broadened, and various experiences became the foundation for my growth.”
Kim Do-yeon, a student from the second expedition team (1st year, Seongdong High School), said, “I have high expectations for the expedition that will soon begin,” and expressed her aspirations, saying, “I want to return with big dreams like the seniors from the first expedition team.”
◆ Global tour schedule and goals
The expedition team will visit major regions of the eastern United States for six nights and eight days from January 8 to January 15, 2025. The itinerary includes visits to world-renowned universities such as Harvard University, Yale University, and MIT, and students will have the opportunity to concretize their vision for their career path by meeting with university students.
Additionally, we plan to broaden our international perspective and cultivate global leadership through visits to the UN headquarters and startup companies, as well as touring major landmarks in New York and Washington D.C.
◆ Thorough preparation process
The Jung-gu Scholarship Foundation held two preliminary meetings in October and November to ensure the safe and systematic exploration of the expedition team. They thoroughly prepared by collecting opinions from parents and students, checking the exploration schedule, safety management, and preparations.
◆ Expectations and promises of support from stakeholders
Chairman Park Jang-seon said, “I hope that students can grow through various experiences in the wider world beyond school,” and emphasized, “The foundation will continue to actively support students’ dreams.”
Jung-gu District Mayor Kim Gil-seong also said, “This global expedition will be a stepping stone for students to develop international awareness and grow into leading figures in future society,” and “Jung-gu will provide multifaceted support so that students can freely pursue their dreams.”
◆ Continuous efforts to cultivate global talent
‘Challenge! Global Exploration’ is a core talent development project of Jung-gu, and is an important program that helps students to be active on the world stage. The experience gained by the second group of expedition members through their visit to the United States is expected to be an important foundation for future career choices and strengthening global capabilities.
