Dongdaemun-gu has finalized its 2025 budget at a total of KRW 910.9 billion , including KRW 886 billion in general accounts and KRW 24.9 billion in special accounts . This is a 13.12% increase from 2024 , and will be invested in various fields for regional development along with a fund of KRW 153.4 billion .

The district council passed the final plan, which reduced the general account by 5.39548 billion won , the special account by 25 million won , and the fund operation plan by 20 million won through deliberation by the Budget and Settlement Special Committee, at the plenary session on the 18th . This budget plan was compiled with a focus on realizing the five major city visions : an educational city , a cultural city , a companion city , a future transportation city , and a smart and safe city .
In the education sector, a total of 16.6 billion won was allocated, including 15.5 billion won in subsidies for kindergarten and elementary, middle, and high school education expenses, expansion and relocation of education support centers (700 million won ) , and customized college admission consulting (150 million won). In particular, practical learning support programs such as university student learning mentoring ( 130 million won ) and support for Internet college entrance exam broadcasting vouchers (24 million won ) are noteworthy .
In the culture and leisure sector, 3.29 billion won will be invested to expand local festivals such as the Dongdaemun Festival ( KRW 450 million ) and the Spring Flower Festival ( KRW 220 million ) , and to create resident-friendly spaces such as the Jungnangcheon Water Sports Experience Education Center (KRW 400 million ) and the Children’s Park Water Playground ( KRW 1.7 billion ) .
The welfare sector, which accounts for more than half of the total budget ( KRW 507.5 billion ) , is mainly comprised of the basic pension for the elderly ( KRW 162.4 billion ) and support for basic livelihood recipients (KRW 115.6 billion ) . Customized welfare services, such as the operation of district-run senior citizen welfare centers ( KRW 1.57 billion ) and the operation of single- person household support centers ( KRW 240 million ) , will also be strengthened .
In order to build transportation and urban infrastructure, the construction of a public parking lot in Imun-dong ( KRW 10.2 billion ) and the construction of self-driving bus infrastructure (KRW 100 million ) are being promoted . In order to create a smart and safe city, the improvement of old roads ( KRW 2.99 billion ) and the installation of smart traffic safety facilities (KRW 300 million ) are also planned .
Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung emphasized, “ In order to revitalize the local economy and people’s livelihoods, which are expected to become difficult, we have increased the budget by 105.6 billion won compared to the previous year , ” and “ We will do our best to execute the budget in a timely manner in order to operate the district in step with the residents . ”
