Jung-gu, Incheon Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Jeong-heon) announced on December 16 that it has completed the ‘Landscape Greenway Promenade Maintenance Project’ targeting the Airport New Town landscape greenway. This project was carried out to create a safer and more pleasant space for the promenade, and was one of the long-awaited projects for residents.
The target of the maintenance project is a 1km section of walking path centered around Yeongmaru Park in the new airport city, from the World Peace Forest in the west to Yeongjong Coastal North Road in the north and Baekryeon Mountain in the east. This area has been used as a walking and resting area as well as a route for students to school, but as the walking path has been built for a long time, cracks in the pavement and water accumulation have occurred frequently, and the need for maintenance has been raised.
Jung-gu invested about 1 billion won in special grants and started the project in August, and finished construction in early December. The main work included repaving damaged walking paths, improving drainage facilities such as water collection tanks and rainwater pipes, and planting various plants such as pheasant trees, arrow trees, and Ophiopogon japonicus to create a nature-friendly green space. Through this, a safer and more pleasant walking environment was provided to local residents.
On the 12th, prior to the completion of the project, Mayor Kim Jeong-heon and members of the Unsu-dong neighborhood association walked along the newly renovated walking path together to celebrate the completion. One neighborhood head said, “I feel good because the walking path is much brighter and cleaner,” and “I thank Jung-gu Office for resolving the residents’ long-standing wish.”

Mayor Kim Jeong-heon said, “I hope that this maintenance project will create a space where residents can enjoy a ‘walk around the neighborhood’ more comfortably,” and added, “We plan to install additional rest facilities for residents in the future to create an even better green welfare space.”
Through this project, the Airport New Town landscape green space promenade is expected to become an important resource for residents’ health and leisure, contributing to improving the quality of life in the region.
