Anseong City selected the top 10 news stories through a citizen survey based on the major projects and achievements promoted throughout 2024. About 6,400 people participated in this selection process through SNS and the city hall website, and achievements in various fields received great attention from citizens.
1. Full-scale development of semiconductor specialized complex and fostering of advanced industries
Anseong City has been committed to fostering cutting-edge industries, focusing on the creation of a semiconductor specialized complex. Through the operation of a semiconductor contract department with Hankyung National University and a win-win business agreement with Korea Electric Power Corporation, the industrial foundation has been solidified, and a 50.1 billion won support project to activate research and development and production within the specialized complex has also been launched in earnest. Through this, approximately 16,000 jobs are expected to be created and an economic effect of 2.44 trillion won is expected.
2. Strengthening the public nature of public transportation
Free transportation support for the elderly and low-income families has been expanded, and the existing ‘Smart Bus’ operating area has been expanded from the western and eastern regions to the northern and southern regions, greatly improving citizens’ convenience in moving. In particular, the opening of new metropolitan bus routes to Gangnam and Songpa in Seoul has received a great response as it has reduced citizens’ transportation costs.

3. Strengthening the Anseong brand as a cultural city
Anseong City, the only city in the metropolitan area to be selected as the ‘Cultural City of the Republic of Korea’, has activated citizen participation programs such as the Cultural Artisan School and the Anseong Cultural Center. In addition, it has further raised Anseong’s cultural status by preparing for the 2025 East Asian Cultural City Project.
4. Namsadang Baudeok Festival held successfully
The Namsadang Baudeogi Festival held in October attracted 568,000 tourists and recorded sales of agricultural and specialty products worth 2.26 billion won. The festival featured world folk performances and the Anseong Cultural Center Festa, introducing the charm of K-culture to the world.
5. Expand customized welfare for the elderly
Customized services were provided to improve the quality of life of the elderly, such as creating jobs for the elderly (3,660 jobs), AI-based health care (for 300 people), and visiting health care for the vulnerable. In particular, the new business, ‘Healthy Morning Thousand Won Restaurant’, provided a solid day for the elderly through a quality breakfast.
6. Activation of regional specialized library operation
Anseong City has increased the number of books per citizen by more than three times and has expanded the reading culture to 6,000 people through the ‘Gyeonggi Reading Festival’. The interlibrary loan service and the life cycle book package project have raised Anseong City’s status as a city of reading.
7. Creating a youth-friendly city
Through the youth-only space, ‘Youth Talk Talk,’ we supported various cultural and leisure activities, and through the operation of Youth Activity N Dolphin and Cheongryujang, we laid the foundation for youth activities. We also promoted youth entrepreneurship and overseas training support projects, expanding growth opportunities for future generations.
8. Improvement of living conditions
The opening of Anseong Matchum Empathy Center, Environmental Education Center, and Gyeonggi Anseong Music Platform greatly increased the convenience and cultural satisfaction of citizens. In addition, a pleasant urban environment was created through eco-friendly projects such as the creation of the Urban Wind Path Forest.
9. Introduction of smart windowless building
The odor-reducing smart windowless barn reduces odor by 80-100% compared to existing barns, significantly improves productivity, and has become a new model for sustainable livestock farming.
10 Geumbukjeongmaek Exploration Trail Creation
The Geumbukjeongmaek Ecological Trail, which includes the Geumgwang Lake Sky Observatory and Sky Trail, is gaining attention as a premium tourist destination that utilizes the natural environment.
