The Our Apartment Small Theater Troupe, a cultural arts education support project run by Bucheon Cultural Foundation (CEO Han Byeong-hwan, hereinafter referred to as the Foundation), successfully concluded its final performance at the Fantasia Theater of Boksa-gol Cultural Center on the 14th.

This project was carried out for approximately three months from October to December, focusing on two apartments in Bucheon (Jungdong Central Prugio and Mirinae Lotte Apartment), and is characterized by the active participation of local residents.

Special theater education in an idle space

Our apartment’s small theater troupe operated in a form where residents received theater education for a total of 24 sessions using idle spaces such as the apartment’s community center conference room, senior center, and nearby practice room. Kim Ji-hyun, the head of the local art theater troupe ‘Yeter’, and Lee Ki-seok, the head of the theater troupe ‘Wonmi-dong People’, served as instructors and guided the entire process from the basics of theater to performance directing.

A new experience with your neighbors

The reactions of the participating residents were also enthusiastic. One trainee said, “It was meaningful to be able to communicate with my neighbors and build intimacy through the unique experience of theater,” and “I started following an acquaintance, but as it went on, I looked forward to each episode.”

In the final performance, a play that the trainees themselves acted in and participated in producing was put on stage. The performance was attended by the residents’ families and neighbors, who gave a big round of applause and successfully concluded the event.

Opening the Potential of Bucheon, a Cultural City

Han Byeong-hwan, CEO of Bucheon Cultural Foundation, said, “The cultural arts education support project is contributing to creating a happy cultural city where citizens and local artists can work together,” and added, “We will continue to support the formation of resident-led cultural arts communities.”

This project is significant in that it goes beyond simply experiencing culture and art and shows the possibility of a new cultural community centered around an apartment complex. The Bucheon Cultural Foundation plans to realize the vision of Bucheon as a cultural city by planning programs in which more residents can participate in the future.
