Yongin Special City’s Cherin-gu announced on the 26th that it had invested 1.32925 billion won in restoring river embankments and damaged walking trails that were washed away due to heavy rain last July, and that it would complete the restoration work within the year.
Due to the record-breaking heavy rain on July 18, damage occurred in 20 local rivers, such as Bongmucheon and Wanjangcheon, and small rivers, such as Haegokcheon and Danghacheon, including the loss of embankments, sediment deposition, and damage to walking trail decks.

Accordingly, Cheoin-gu has significantly brought forward the restoration schedule, which is usually done in the first half of the following year, and has pushed forward emergency construction to ensure the safety of residents and resolve inconveniences. The main restoration targets are 10 local rivers, including Bongmucheon and Wanjangcheon in Bongmu-ri, Namsa-eup, and 10 small rivers, including Haegokcheon and Geumhakcheon in Haegok-dong.
The restoration work included repairing the embankment and reinforcing the water barrier, and dredging the sediment deposited in the river to stabilize the waterway. These measures were aimed at preventing secondary damage caused by river flooding and embankment erosion, and focused on ensuring the safety of houses and small business shops along the river.
A former official said, “Due to the monsoon rains this summer, river embankments collapsed and flooding occurred one after another, so we urgently carried out restoration work,” adding, “We will do our best to safely manage rivers that are closely related to residents’ lives and prevent flood damage in advance in the future.”
