Incheon Seo-gu Cultural Foundation will hold the dance musical ‘Kiss the Chunhyang’ at the Cultural Space ‘Turtle’ on the street of culture on December 21. A modern reinterpretation of the classic Chunhyang story will be performed on the stage of Incheon Seo-gu for the first time in 10 years.

Incheon Seo-gu Cultural Foundation announced that it will present the dance musical ‘Kiss the Chunhyang’ at the Cultural Space ‘Turtle’ on the Cultural Street on December 21st.
Opened in May, “Cultural Space Turtle” is a complex cultural space located on the downtown market street. It presents works of various genres, including concerts, plays, shadow plays, and exhibitions, and is loved by local artists and residents. It is contributing to the revitalization of local culture by establishing itself as a space for creation, distribution, and cultural consumption.
The dance musical ‘Kiss the Chunhyang’ was first performed at Naru Art Center in 2012, choreographed and directed by Professor Yang Seon-hee of the Department of Dance at Sejong University. It has since been performed at Arko Arts Theater, Hangeul Museum, Chungju Cultural Center, and other locations across the country, receiving great responses. This performance has been recreated with choreography and direction by Kwon Yong-sang, and will be on stage in Seo-gu, Incheon for the first time in 10 years.
The premiere reinterprets the classic Chunhyangjeon in a modern way, exploring the meaning of ideal love through the characters Bangi and Hyangi, who live compromising with reality. In this performance, the story is reconstructed as a story in which a punished magistrate looks back on his life in another world and reflects, conveying the lesson of karma. The detailed dance moves will showcase new aspects of Chunhyang and Byeon Magistrate.
Before the performance, there will be a pre-lecture by dancer Im Yeong-sun, holder of Intangible Cultural Property No. 1 of South Pyongan Province, providing the audience with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the art of dance.
