Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) held the **’2024 Child Protection Zone Survey Final Report Meeting’** at the Baekseok Annex of Goyang City Hall on the 20th and announced the results of the survey on 155 child protection zones in the city.
This investigation was conducted to improve the safety of children’s protection zones and prevent traffic accidents, and included ▲analysis of traffic accident status ▲inspection of traffic safety facilities within protection zones ▲traffic volume survey ▲review of compliance with facility regulations ▲diagnosis of problems and review of improvement measures.
In particular, the city thoroughly inspected key safety elements in children’s protection zones, such as signs, road pavement, and traffic safety facilities, to minimize blind spots in safety. Any problems discovered through this will be immediately corrected, and a systematic improvement plan will be established and implemented for mid- to long-term tasks.
The city plans to gradually improve and strengthen safety infrastructure within child protection zones starting in the first half of 2025. To this end, it plans to prepare and implement improvement plans in close cooperation with local residents, schools, police, etc.
At the report meeting, Director of Transportation Joo Si-woon emphasized, “It is most important to create an environment where children can safely commute to school,” and “We will thoroughly improve the problems revealed in this survey and do our best to prevent traffic accidents involving children.”
In addition, the city plans to do its utmost to prevent child traffic accidents through continuous inspection and maintenance of child protection zones. The plan is to create a safe school environment for children and parents by expanding traffic safety facilities and strengthening the management system within child protection zones.
This survey served as an important opportunity to systematically diagnose safety issues within children’s protection zones and devise effective improvement measures.
