Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) held a ‘Tax Arrears Kakao Talk Introduction Seminar’ in the small conference room of Ilsandong-gu Office on the 12th. This seminar was held in preparation for the introduction of a system that sends tax arrears notices and notices as mobile electronic documents, and about 20 people from the city hall collection department and each district office tax department attended to conduct related education and discussions.
Goyang City plans to introduce an electronic document transmission system using Kakao Talk starting in 2025. This system, which replaces existing paper notices, is expected to reduce the budget by sending tax delinquency notices and guidance notices via Kakao Talk, while increasing taxpayer accessibility and effectively improving the collection rate.
At the seminar, the functions and operation plans of the electronic document transmission solution using Kakao Talk were explained, and the attendees discussed the technical issues and practical procedures required for the introduction and operation of the system. A city official said, “This system will greatly contribute to increasing tax revenue, improving the efficiency of tax delinquent collection work, and providing convenient services to taxpayers.”
In particular, this system is designed with the possibility of expansion into regular local tax guidance and overpayment refund services in addition to sending delinquent tax notices. Goyang City plans to strengthen communication with taxpayers through Kakao Talk in the future and provide administrative services related to local taxes more quickly and conveniently.
Electronic documents based on Kakao Talk notifications are highly accessible and usable as taxpayers can easily check tax-related information through Kakao Talk without having to install a separate application. In addition, by replacing paper notices, annual budget savings and environmental protection effects are expected.
Goyang City plans to actively promote the digitalization of its tax delinquent collection system through this seminar to increase administrative efficiency and strengthen citizen-oriented tax administration. A city official said, “The introduction of Kakao Talk will be an important turning point that will maximize taxpayer convenience while increasing tax revenue,” and added, “We will continue to improve and expand the system.”
