Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) has promoted various welfare policies this year with the goal of ‘creating an era of citizen happiness and rational welfare’ to improve the quality of life for citizens.

The city has installed two additional ‘Daham Together Care Centers’ to strengthen childcare infrastructure and has actively promoted customized case management for children from vulnerable groups. It has also established the ‘Da Moa Childcare e’ integrated childcare service platform so that parents can easily check care services. In addition, the ‘Stepping Seed Account’ performance has been ranked first in Gyeonggi Province, and has also achieved results in supporting children’s economic independence.

In particular, the ‘Goyang City Moonlight Daycare Center’ was established through public-private collaboration for the first time in the country, and an environment was created where parents can work with peace of mind by expanding part-time childcare services and nighttime extended daycare center operations. The childbirth support fund for the third child or more was also expanded from the existing 3 million won to a maximum of 10 million won, contributing to solving the low birth rate problem.

We also actively supported employment for the elderly and the disabled. Through public and market-type elderly employment projects such as school zone traffic maps, public facility volunteer work, and silver cafes, 8,853 elderly people were able to participate in jobs. We also expanded customized public employment projects for the disabled, providing opportunities for social participation and economic independence to 238 people.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City said, “We will create a welfare city where everyone is happy by reducing the burden of childbirth and childcare and expanding the social participation of the elderly and the disabled.”

In addition, Goyang City is promoting the establishment of the ‘Goyang Citizen Welfare Foundation’ and received final approval for establishment from Gyeonggi Province last October. Administrative procedures are currently underway with the goal of launching in the second half of next year, and through this, the plan is to provide more systematic and sustainable welfare services.

In addition, Goyang City has been recognized for the excellence of its welfare policies, including winning the 2024 National Representative Brand Award in the ‘Good City for Raising Children’ category, receiving an A grade in the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s Childcare Support Project Evaluation, and being selected as the best institution for the Youth After-School Academy.

The city plans to continue to strengthen the public-private partnership system to eliminate blind spots in welfare and do its best to ensure that real benefits go to citizens who need them.
