Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan held a meeting of executives on the 18th and reviewed special measures to stabilize the people’s economy and revitalize local commerce amid the impeachment situation. The mayor emphasized that he would respond by prioritizing the safety of citizens and the recovery of daily life amid economic instability and depressed consumer sentiment.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “With the impeachment bill passed by the National Assembly and the acting prime minister in place, the economic downturn is deepening, with the exchange rate rising and consumer sentiment declining,” and instructed, “Make immediate preparations so that next year’s budget can be executed quickly from the first day of the new year.” He also ordered active execution to ensure that this year’s budget is not left unused.

He also expressed concern about the situation in which small business owners, self-employed workers, and the tourism and exhibition industry (MICE) are being hit hard by the economic downturn, high interest rates, and high prices. The mayor said, “Various festivals and events planned for the year-end and New Year’s holidays should proceed normally, and the public sector should take the lead in revitalizing local businesses by early execution of welfare points.”

In particular, the protection measures for vulnerable groups in winter were also emphasized. The mayor said, “In the cold season, the underprivileged, such as low-income families and elderly people living alone, can be at greater risk physically and economically,” and emphasized, “We need careful management, such as inspections of welfare facilities, expansion of care services, and discovery of households in blind spots.” He also requested that each dong administrative welfare center and public health center strengthen management of energy vulnerable groups and health vulnerable groups.

Preparation for natural disasters in winter was also identified as a major task. The mayor said, “We must more thoroughly establish an emergency work system and response manual for cold waves, heavy snow, and fires,” and instructed, “In particular, since timing is important for snow removal work, we must make every effort to prepare snow removal vehicles for operation.”

There was also a request to establish public service discipline. The mayor said, “Year-end parties and gatherings should proceed as scheduled to stimulate the local economy, but it is also important to maintain dignity as a public servant,” and added, “Please pay special attention to establishing public service discipline.”

Goyang Special City plans to do its best to achieve tangible results in stabilizing people’s livelihoods and revitalizing the local economy through this special measure and to promote policies that citizens can feel.
