Incheon Seo-gu (Mayor Kang Beom-seok) announced that it held a completion ceremony for the climate response urban forest created in the Geomdan General Industrial Complex and Baekseok Park area on the 19th. The completion ceremony was held with the attendance of Oryu Wang-gil-dong, the head of the organization, 120 local residents, Mayor Kang Beom-seok, and district council members.

The Geomdan Climate Response Urban Forest was created with a total project cost of 2.4 billion won (1.2 billion won from the national government, 6 billion won from the city, and 6 billion won from the district), and a total of 51,092 trees were planted, including 1,562 trees of 13 species including metasequoia and king oak, and 49,530 trees of 11 species. The created area is approximately 24,000 m2, which is equivalent to the size of three soccer fields.

This urban forest was created to block fine dust generated from industrial complexes and roads from flowing into residential areas and to provide a resting space where residents can visit at any time and enjoy the atmosphere of the forest.

Starting in 2022, the West has been continuously creating climate-responsive urban forests connecting the downtown area, Cheongna, and Geomdan, starting with the Seoknam-Ieum Forest and Cheongna 16 Landscape Green Space. So far, a total project cost of 12.4 billion won has been spent to complete an urban forest of 204,000 m2, equivalent to 28 soccer fields.

The completion ceremony on this day included various events such as a national anthem, a report on the progress of the project, commemorative speeches and congratulatory speeches, presentation of plaques of appreciation, commemorative tree planting, and on-site inspection. In his commemorative speech, Seo-gu Mayor Kang Beom-seok said, “The climate-responsive urban forest will reduce pollutants such as fine dust while providing a comfortable resting place for residents,” and “We will make Seo-gu a more pleasant and green city.”
