Jochiwon, a city center street lighting ceremony held to shine with youth

Sejong Special Self-Governing City successfully held the ‘Jochiwon, Shining with Youth, Street Lighting Ceremony’ on the 23rd at Jochiwon Station Square with the participation of 200 local residents. This event was designed to add vitality to Jochiwon’s downtown area, share the achievements of local youth entrepreneurship and cultural activities, and create a festival for citizens to enjoy together.

Jochiwon downtown lights up as part of the local content town development project being promoted by Sejong City. Starting from Jochiwon Station Square, nighttime landscape lighting has been installed along Sangri Ginkgo Tree Road, Gyo-ri, and the traditional market area, brightening up the winter nights. The lighting aims to create a Christmas atmosphere at the end of the year, while also attracting young people and citizens to the downtown area, revitalizing local businesses and strengthening the community.

At the lighting ceremony, Mayor Choi Min-ho, local youth, and residents together lit up the street lights to heighten the year-end atmosphere. In particular, the media pole installed at the Jochiwon Station Plaza, the high-voltage lighting installed at the fruit and vegetable street, and the local sculpture at the roundabout in front of Jochiwon Agricultural Cooperative were added to enrich the sights. After the lighting ceremony, Mayor Choi walked along the street lights with citizens and chatted with them, communicating with the local community.

The event also provided an opportunity to widely publicize the activities of young people through the award ceremony for young entrepreneurs and the exhibition of their achievements. In addition, various programs containing the emotions and creativity of young people followed, such as calligraphy performances, installation of a wish Christmas tree, and operation of a youth policy promotion booth. Through this, young entrepreneurs and local residents had time to communicate with each other and draw the future of Jochiwon together.

Mayor Choi Min-ho said, “We are revitalizing the Jochiwon commercial district by developing the Jochiwon downtown area into a cradle for young entrepreneurs and planning new programs through collaboration between local universities and local residents.” He continued, “I hope that in the coming new year, all local residents will be filled with hope and vitality along with the bright light of Jochiwon.”

Meanwhile, Sejong City plans to install local streetlights with a pattern design using peaches, a representative local resource of Jochiwon, in the first half of next year, in the main street, to strengthen Jochiwon’s unique city image. This streetlight lighting ceremony and the subsequent urban development project are expected to contribute to Jochiwon establishing itself as a youth-friendly area.
