A meaningful sunrise event will be held at Sejong Lake Park to celebrate the Year of the Snake (乙巳年) in 2025. This event, which was prepared to specially commemorate the first day of the new year, is jointly hosted by Sejong City and the Sejong City District Council of the Korean Red Cross, and will provide citizens with a variety of cultural experiences and a time of warm sharing.
The event will begin at 6:30 a.m. with a screening of video letters from citizens expressing their New Year’s wishes and aspirations. The following Pungmul Gilnori performance will add to the joy of the New Year, and the classical pre-event performance will add a warm touch to the quiet dawn. In addition, various programs such as a lucky bag performance and New Year’s greetings from distinguished guests are being prepared to raise citizens’ expectations.

In particular, the time when citizens exchange New Year’s greetings with each other and wish for hope and peace at sunrise is considered the highlight of the event. In addition, rice cake soup and warm drinks will be shared at the site to add warmth to the cold winter weather. There will also be experiential booths such as hanging wishing bells and a blue snake photo zone, creating a festival atmosphere that the whole family can enjoy together.
To ensure the safety of the event, Sejong City is strengthening safety management through pre-meetings and on-site inspections. On the day of the event, safety personnel will be deployed to each area, and Sejong Fire Station and Sejong Southern Police Station will cooperate to prepare for emergency situations.
Sejong City Mayor Choi Min-ho said, “We have thoroughly prepared the event so that all citizens can happily and safely welcome the first day of the new year,” and added, “I hope that many citizens will welcome the new year together and share new hope.”
In addition to Sejong Lake Park, sunrise events are also held in various areas, including Dodori Park in Jochiwon-eup, Gyeongjeong Business Site in Yeongi-myeon, and Nogobong Peak in Bugang-myeon, to encourage participation from local residents.
As the first sun rises in the new year, the citizens of Sejong will hold each other’s hands and reaffirm the values of hope and sharing. This year’s Eulsa Year sunrise event will be a meaningful time to feel the warm solidarity of the local community.
