Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Kang-seok) announced on the 26th that it has completed the installation of 149 automatic rooftop door opening and closing devices in six apartment complexes in the district this year. This is a measure to help residents evacuate safely in the event of a fire and to prevent crime.
The ‘rooftop door automatic opening/closing device’ is a device that normally closes the door to prevent crime and safety accidents, and in the event of a fire, automatically opens the door in conjunction with a fire bell to help residents safely evacuate to the rooftop.
The device has been installed in apartments that have been approved for use since the revision of the ‘Regulations on Housing Construction Standards, etc.’ in February 2016. However, in Songpa-gu, only 39 out of 105 mandatory management complexes completed before the revision have the device installed, resulting in a current installation rate of only 37%.
To solve these problems, Songpa-gu added a support item for automatic rooftop door opening and closing devices to the ‘Songpa-gu Apartment Support Ordinance’ and has been quickly pushing forward with support since last July.
In addition, in cooperation with Songpa Fire Department, we conducted on-site inspections and usage guidance for complexes where automatic opening and closing devices were installed to increase the effectiveness of the devices.
In addition, the district is strengthening its publicity activities to help residents easily find the rooftop entrance in case of a fire. It has attached identification stickers to apartment complexes and sent out guidance documents to improve residents’ awareness.
Songpa-gu District Mayor Seo Kang-seok said, “Resident safety is the most important responsibility of the administration,” and added, “Next year, we will do our best to create a safe living environment and minimize fire damage by giving top priority to the installation of automatic door opening and closing devices on rooftop doors.”
