Seoul Jung-gu (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) and the National Jeongdong Theater (Director Jeong Seong-sook) are giving a warm Christmas to single-person households in Jung-gu at the end of the year. The National Jeongdong Theater sponsored 30 tickets to the musical ‘Eye Charm’ to single-person households in Jung-gu, and the Jung-gu Office recruited applicants through the single-person household online community ‘The Singles’ and selected 30 people.

This sponsorship is significant in that it is the first cultural support targeting only single-person households in Jung-gu. Jung-gu, which has the second highest single-person household ratio in Seoul, is comprised of single-person households, with approximately 54% of all households. This ticket sponsorship is expected to provide them with a special opportunity to enjoy culture.

The 30 selected residents will watch the musical ‘I-Cham’ at the National Jeongdong Theater on Christmas Day, December 25th. The work is set in Gyeongseong in the 1930s and tells the story of ‘Hyeon Seok-ju’, the first person in Korea to attempt double eyelid surgery. The main character runs Seok-ju Beauty Salon and opens up his own life, delivering a message of emotion and hope to the audience.

Single-person households will spend a warm year-end by enjoying the atmosphere of the National Jeongdong Theater and Jeongdong Street, the starting point of modern and contemporary culture and arts, after watching the performance.

Jeong Seong-suk, the director of the National Jeongdong Theater, said, “I am glad that our theater located in Jung-gu can provide cultural experiences to local residents,” and added, “I hope that this musical performance will be an opportunity for the National Jeongdong Theater to become a more familiar space to local residents.”

Kim Gil-seong, the mayor of Jung-gu, said, “I would like to thank the National Jeongdong Theater for its support for the local residents, and I hope that single-person households will enjoy the musical and the romance of Jeongdong Street and have a happy Christmas.”

Meanwhile, Jung-gu is implementing various policies to support single-person households, such as the social dining service ‘Happy Table’ for middle-aged and elderly single-person households, a monthly rent and deposit contract assistance service, and welcome kit support for single-person households moving in.
