Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) successfully completed the integrated safety ‘smart pole’ construction project promoted as a Seoul Metropolitan Government public offering project, and has established cutting-edge infrastructure to prevent children’s traffic accidents and create safe routes to school.
‘Smart poles’ are complex facilities that combine information and communication technology (ICT) with urban infrastructure, and provide various functions such as illegal parking crackdown, intelligent CCTV, speeding warning system, stop line violation guidance, public Wi-Fi, and emergency bells. Through this, it pursues both traffic accident prevention and resident convenience. Jungnang-gu analyzed data on children’s traffic accidents to identify areas with a high incidence of traffic accidents and school routes, and calculated a traffic safety vulnerability index within a 300m radius of 24 elementary schools in the district. Based on the analysis results, it selected four locations near Mukhyeon Elementary School and Sinmuk Elementary School as installation areas, reorganized existing disorderly facilities, and newly built a total of four smart poles.
