Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) held an awards ceremony on the 14th to select 42 residents who have practiced excellent farming and warm sharing among the 1,126 people who used the gardens in the district this year as excellent farmers.
Since 2012, Gwanak-gu has been operating the ‘Eco-friendly Urban Garden Project’ so that residents can experience nature and enjoy the joy of harvest in the city. Currently, there are 1,259 plots in 10 locations in Gwanak-gu, including ▲Gang Gam-chan Garden (Naksungdae-dong 259-1) and ▲Naksungdae Garden (Naksungdae-dong 231-2).
This project receives great response every year, and this year, it showed a hot competition rate of 5:1. This year in particular, excellent residents were selected by focusing on evaluating residents who practiced a culture of sharing with their neighbors, such as completing urban agriculture education, donating crops, and promoting vegetable gardens, in addition to diligent farming.
Last year, the ‘Garden Photo Contest’ selected excellent residents based on objective criteria, while this year’s contest reflected the values of sharing and solidarity.
At the awards ceremony, Dr. Lee Jae-wook gave a lecture on the topic of ‘General knowledge of urban agriculture for farmers in 2025’, strengthening the capacity of residents to become urban farmers.
The 42 people selected as excellent citizens will receive garden use tickets without a public lottery when recruiting participants for next year’s garden project.
Gwanak-gu District Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “I would like to thank the residents who happily participated in gardening even in the record-breaking heat wave,” and added, “We will continue to promote various projects so that Gwanak-gu residents can experience healthy leisure activities and agricultural culture in the city.”
Gwanak-gu’s ‘Eco-friendly Urban Garden Project’ continues to be loved by residents as it provides healthy leisure activities along with healing in the city center.
