Yongin Special City announced on the 30th that in order to commemorate the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster that occurred at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province, it will cancel or postpone major events that had been scheduled and implement early hoisting and wearing of mourning ribbons. Yongin Special City announced that it will be implementing national mourning measures and flags will be flown at half-mast from December 29 to January 4 next year to commemorate the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane crash that occurred at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province on the 30th. This follows the recommendation of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, and flags will be flown at half-mast at the city hall, three district offices, and township offices, and all employees will wear mourning ribbons.

In addition, a memorial banner was hung in 14 major densely populated areas, including Yongin Intersection and Singal Intersection, to create an atmosphere where citizens could mourn the victims together.

City officials said, “We recommend canceling or postponing all community and public events during the mourning period,” and “The opening ceremony for the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway and the Seongsan Mountain Sunrise Festival scheduled for New Year’s Day have all been canceled.” A music concert scheduled for that evening at City Hall’s Ace Hall has also been postponed.

The local community was further saddened when it was confirmed that one of the 179 victims was a Yongin citizen. Mayor Lee Sang-il said, “I cannot help but feel heartbroken that so many precious lives have been lost in this disaster,” and “I pray for the souls of the victims and express my deepest condolences to their bereaved families.”

In addition, he expressed his will to actively support, saying, “Yongin Special City will do everything it can to help with the accident recovery and support the bereaved families.”
