Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Gil-seong Kim) held the 1st Jung-gu Youth Policy Network (Jung-gu Youth Net) Performance Sharing Meeting at the Eulji Unique Factory Seminar Room on December 19. 27 Jung-gu Youth Net youth committee members and related officials attended the event, which included the announcement of the finalists of the policy idea contest, screening of activity videos, and an activity certificate award ceremony.

The Jung-gu Youth Network was first launched this year with the goal of expanding youth participation in local government and discovering practical policies. Jung-gu has a youth population ratio of 32% of the total population, and Jangchung-dong, Gwanghui-dong, and Euljiro-dong in particular are areas with a high proportion of youth, with youth ratios reaching 43-44%.

Jung-gu Clean Network, which officially launched through an inauguration ceremony last July, has been operating for about six months, divided into three divisions: ▲Employment and Entrepreneurship ▲Culture and Arts ▲Health and Society. The youth members have built up basic capabilities in policy planning and budget management through the policy academy, and have proposed practical policies through a systematic process.

In particular, the ‘Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Support Program’ proposed by the Employment and Entrepreneurship Division is scheduled to be implemented as a 2025 citizen participation budget project. The core of this program is to provide young people with education on the latest technology trends, job training, mentoring, etc., to provide practical support for employment and entrepreneurship.

At this performance sharing session, the final presentations and evaluations were held for the five projects that made it to the finals among the 15 proposals received through the Youth Policy Idea Contest held last November.

In the division sector, ▲’Delicate Café’ (public institution café-linked job project for isolated youth) and ▲’Isolated Youth’s Playlist Track on Jung-gu’ (youth emotional healing through public art programs) were announced.

In the personal sector, ▲’Commuting to Jung-gu’ (providing practical job experience at companies in Jung-gu) ▲’Downtown Creator Training Project’ (exploring Jung-gu’s printing and video culture, food, and content production) ▲’Operation of the Youth Community Center and Youth Head System’ (strengthening cooperation between youth and residents) were introduced.

Through real-time on-site voting, ‘Delicate Cafe’ was selected as the best in the department category, and ‘Commuting to Jung-gu’ was selected as the best in the individual category, and each was awarded a prize of 500,000 won.

Youth Committee member Cho Hyo-eun (28) said, “It was a meaningful experience to participate as a policy proposer while thinking about the needs of the local community with my peers for six months,” and added, “It was rewarding to see the possibility that our ideas could be realized as policies.”

Jung-gu District Mayor Kim Gil-seong said, “Jung-gu Youth Network is an important communication channel for young people’s ideas to be realized as policies,” and added, “We will continue to actively support young people so that they can play a greater role as partners in district administration.”

Based on this achievement, Jung-gu Youth Network plans to continue its active activities next year as well, and in 2025, it plans to recruit the second group of youth committee members to continue discovering youth policies that fit the characteristics of the region.
