Yongin Special City announced that it has installed a smart library at the administrative welfare center in Yeokbuk-dong, Cheoin-gu to reduce inconveniences for citizens in using books as the remodeling of Yongin Central Library begins. This is the 13th smart library installed in Yongin City, starting with Giheung Station in 2016.
The Smart Library is an unmanned library service that allows citizens to borrow and return books regardless of time and place. It operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and citizens with a Yongin City Library membership card can borrow up to 3 books at a time for up to 14 days.
This Yeokbuk-dong Smart Library has about 150 different books, including bestsellers, books of the year selected by citizens, and children’s books. When borrowing books, you must return them to the smart library from which you borrowed them, and if you want to see more books, you can borrow books from 20 public libraries in Yongin City through the interlibrary loan service. In addition, there is an integrated return service that allows you to return books borrowed from other libraries to the Yeokbuk-dong Smart Library.
Smart libraries are being installed in areas with high accessibility for citizens and are receiving great responses. They are installed in various areas such as transportation hubs such as Giheung Station, Jukjeon Station, Seongbok Station, and Yongin Central Market Station, as well as Bojeong-dong, Sinbong-dong, and Dongcheon-dong administrative welfare centers, city hall civil affairs offices, and Yubang Children’s Park, so citizens can easily use them.
A library official said, “We installed a smart library at the Yeokbuk-dong Administrative Welfare Center so that citizens would not experience any inconvenience in using books due to the remodeling work at the Central Library,” adding, “We hope that this will be an opportunity for more citizens to get closer to books by using the smart library.”
