Guro-gu has canceled the sunrise event scheduled for January 1st in connection with the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster.
As the government declared a seven-day national mourning period until midnight on January 4, the district decided to cancel the 2025 sunrise event to commemorate the victims of the disaster and share the pain of the bereaved families who lost their loved ones.
The district previously announced that it would hold a sunrise event to welcome the new year of 2025, the Year of the Snake, where residents can watch the sunrise together and pray for health and happiness throughout the year.
A Guro-gu official said, “We are canceling all events to join the national mourning,” and added, “We pray for the souls of the unfortunate victims to rest in peace and offer our sincere condolences to their bereaved families.”
