Asan City’s ‘Aging Water Supply Modernization Project’ is currently underway with a total project cost of 48.5 billion won to fundamentally resolve problems such as frequent water leaks, water outages, and poor water supply caused by aging water pipes. The goal is to provide a stable and clean tap water supply, and the project is scheduled to be carried out in stages until 2029.
On this day, Asan City introduced the background, progress, and future plans of the project selected as a national subsidy project by the Ministry of Environment. In particular, it received great attention from the attendees by explaining in detail the main issues to be considered during the project promotion process and the problems and improvement measures obtained from the experience of operating and managing the existing water pipe network.
Cheon Heung-ryeol, head of the Asan City Waterworks Division, said, “Our city is moving away from the existing method of contracting and subcontracting and is proceeding with the project by selecting the design and construction supervision on its own,” and emphasized, “We will produce successful project results based on the operational experience and know-how accumulated so far.”
Asan City plans to renovate a total of 62.5 km of old water pipes in four drainage areas within the city through this project. Through this, the city aims to prevent water leakage and improve water flow rates, and strengthen the financial soundness of public enterprises.
Through this benchmarking, Chungcheongnam-do and officials from six cities and counties discussed solutions to water supply problems in each region based on Asan City’s advanced case and created an opportunity to strengthen mutual cooperation systems. Asan City’s successful case is expected to spread throughout Chungcheongnam-do and contribute to providing more stable and clean water supply to local residents.
