Yongin Special City announced that it will conduct emergency safety inspections on 69 large-scale construction sites in the region to prevent safety accidents caused by natural disasters such as heavy snow and strong winds in winter. The inspection period will be from December 31 to January 3, and 15 apartment complexes and 54 general buildings will be targeted.
This inspection will primarily check overall safety issues, including ▲whether concrete pouring is safe in winter and establishment of construction plan ▲whether education is provided to prevent suffocation accidents due to handling of fire during the frame curing process ▲the status of safety management for slopes, earth retaining walls, temporary facilities, etc. ▲the status of scaffolding connecting ironwork and formwork fastening ▲measures to prevent temporary fences and cranes from tipping over in case of strong winds ▲advance preparations such as calcium chloride in case of heavy snow ▲measures to prevent cold-related illnesses among workers.
The city provided a winter construction site safety inspection checklist to field workers and asked them to maintain an emergency contact system in case of unexpected accidents. In addition, it took measures to promptly respond to emergency situations by instructing them to immediately report any safety accidents to the city.
If any major safety hazards are discovered as a result of the inspection, the city plans to conduct an immediate safety diagnosis in cooperation with relevant organizations. Minor issues will be resolved through immediate corrective action on site.
City officials said, “During the winter, there is a higher risk of tower cranes and heavy equipment tipping over, slope collapse, and ground subsidence due to heavy snow and strong winds,” adding, “Through this inspection, we will block risk factors in advance and continuously monitor to prevent safety accidents at construction sites.”
Yongin Special City plans to secure citizen safety as its top priority through continuous inspections and strengthened safety management.
