On December 17th and 24th, Goyang Special City conducted traffic safety education for senior citizens who collect recyclables at Ilsandong-gu Office and Deogyang-gu Office. This education provided information on traffic accident prevention rules and safety measures in the cold season, and also provided safety supplies such as winter gloves and nutritional supplements.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) held the **’2024 Second Half Traffic Safety Education for Senior Citizens Collecting Recyclables’** on December 17th and 24th in the small conference rooms of Ilsandong-gu Office and Deogyang-gu Office. This education was designed to prevent traffic accidents and support safe activities for senior citizens collecting recyclables.
This safety education was conducted in cooperation with Ilsan Dongbu Police Station , and education was provided on △traffic safety rules to be aware of while collecting recyclables △accident cases and prevention methods due to jaywalking, etc. In particular, traffic safety rules were emphasized based on actual accident cases to increase the understanding of the elderly.
In addition, guidance was provided on various policies for the elderly, such as elderly care, leisure activities, and senior jobs, along with safety measures to cope with the cold spells of winter.
◆ Strengthening practical protection through support of safety supplies
The elderly who participated in the training were provided with nutritional supplements sponsored by the Goyang City Pharmaceutical Association and various winter supplies prepared by the city. The distributed items included: △luminous X-bands △neck warmers △winter gloves △winter socks △winter masks, etc., and were prepared to help the elderly stay safe and warm during the winter.
◆ Sustainable Senior Safety Management
City officials said, “We plan to continuously promote safety education to support the safe activities of seniors who collect recyclables,” and “We will not spare any effort in providing multifaceted support, not only to prevent traffic accidents, but also to ensure the health and welfare of seniors.”
Goyang City plans to strengthen the safety of senior citizens’ activities through regular safety education and continuous monitoring in the future.
