On the 26th, Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan visited the Yeosan Transportation Depot in Daejadong and held the 7th regular meeting with village bus drivers to discuss direct complaints. This visit was arranged to directly hear about the difficulties faced by the village bus industry and seek practical solutions.

◆ Difficulties in the village bus industry

The Goyang City village bus industry is facing a continuous shortage of manpower and management difficulties. Unlike other local governments that are implementing a semi-public village bus system and improving the treatment of transportation workers, the wage level of Goyang City village bus drivers is relatively low, resulting in a serious outflow of manpower.

In particular, the proportion of elderly workers is increasing due to the exodus of young workers, and transportation workers are strongly requesting the city to make subsidies more realistic and introduce a semi-public system for village buses.

◆ Mayor Lee Dong-hwan discusses practical solutions

After listening to the voices of transport workers on site, Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “We deeply sympathize with their difficulties and the city is also reviewing various measures to solve the problem.”

The city is closely examining ways to make the subsidy a reality, and plans to establish systematic response measures by promoting a service for the introduction of a semi-public system for village buses in the long term.

◆ On-site inspection of hydrogen bus charging station

After the interview, Mayor Lee Dong-hwan toured the first hydrogen bus charging station in Goyang City in the Yeosan Transportation Garage and inspected the interior and exterior of the facility. Mayor Lee urged officials to make every effort to ensure safety management and emphasized the importance of expanding the supply of hydrogen buses and building infrastructure.

Currently, Goyang City is constructing additional hydrogen charging stations at Daehwa Public Bus Depot and Wondang Public Bus Depot, and plans to strengthen its eco-friendly transportation infrastructure through this.

◆ Promise of continuous communication and administration

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “We will devise realistic and sustainable measures to resolve the difficulties of the village bus industry,” and “We will do our best to expand eco-friendly hydrogen buses and build charging infrastructure.”

Goyang City has promoted regularization of direct civil complaints seven times this year and plans to continue field-centered communication administration next year as well.

◆ Goyang City, Building a Sustainable Eco-Friendly Transportation Network

Through this interview and on-site inspection, Goyang City plans to pursue two goals simultaneously: solving realistic problems in the village bus industry and expanding the eco-friendly transportation network.

In the future, Goyang City plans to make greater efforts to build a sustainable transportation system through active communication with citizens and the promotion of customized policies.
