The district explained, “We decided to do this in order to remember the victims of this disaster and share our grief with their families, in accordance with the declaration of a national mourning period until January 4th of the new year.” However, as some residents are expected to voluntarily observe the sunrise, we plan to proceed with safety measures such as measures against crowds and cold waves as planned and focus on preventing safety accidents.

The district plans to minimize inconvenience to residents by announcing the cancellation on the district office homepage, blog, Instagram, and other social media platforms and hanging cancellation banners around the event venue.

Yangcheon-gu Mayor Lee Ki-jae said, “I pray for the souls of those who passed away in the unexpected plane accident and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their beloved family members.” He continued, “I ask for the generous understanding of the residents regarding the cancellation of the sunrise event, and I hope that you will share in our national sorrow and calmly welcome the new year.”
