Yongin Special City announced on the 1st that it promptly paid out 520 million won in reserve funds from Gyeonggi Province to support emergency recovery of livestock farms that suffered major damage from the record-breaking snowfall from November 27 to 28 last year. As of December 30 last year, the reserve funds had been paid out to 102 affected farms, and are being used for things like the demolition of livestock sheds and the disposal of dead livestock.

The city is operating a ‘Public-Private Field Support Team’ to help livestock farms recover from heavy snow damage. This support team consists of city officials and Yongin Livestock Cooperative officials, and supports the overall recovery work needed by affected farms, including ▲livestock house reconstruction (reconstruction) ▲loan and subsidy support ▲demolition work ▲livestock waste disposal.

As of December 27th last year, a total of 171 farmhouses (310 buildings, approximately 113,173㎡) in Yongin City were identified as needing to be demolished due to heavy snow damage. Of these, demolition work has been completed for 102 farmhouses (172 buildings, approximately 66,594㎡). The city plans to expedite the demolition of the remaining damaged farmhouses so that they can quickly return to their daily lives.

This recovery support fund will be used for the demolition of collapsed livestock sheds, equipment rental, dead livestock disposal costs, and recovery labor costs. Farmers who received the support expressed their gratitude for Yongin City’s quick and practical response, saying that it was a great help in the recovery effort.

City officials said, “We are mobilizing all administrative power to ensure that livestock farms that suffered damage from the sudden heavy snowfall can recover quickly,” and “We urge farmers to prepare for disasters and sign up for disaster insurance to prepare for additional natural disasters caused by climate change during the remaining winter.”
