Yongin Special City Disabled Welfare Committee opens to discuss 2024 performance and 2025 plans

Yongin Special City held the ‘2024 2nd Welfare Committee for the Disabled’ meeting on the 30th in the conference room on the first floor of the city hall annex, shared the achievements of this year’s major welfare projects for the disabled, and discussed plans for next year. The Welfare Committee for the Disabled is an organization formed for the purpose of deliberation and policy development for the development of welfare for the disabled in Yongin City, and is comprised of a total of 16 members including Mayor Lee Sang-il, who is the chairperson, organizations for the disabled, related organizations, academia, and the disabled themselves.

At the meeting, the results of welfare projects for the disabled that have been implemented since the beginning of this year were shared, and in-depth discussions were held on major new projects to be implemented in 2025. In particular, two new members were appointed at this meeting, and various welfare policies for the disabled were announced through discussions among the members.

Major plans to be implemented in 2025 include the construction of a center for the disabled, provision of fueling services for the disabled and others with priority, expansion of job support projects for the disabled, expansion of 24-hour activity support for severely disabled people living alone, reinforcement of emergency safety notification service support, reinforcement of support functions for the developmentally disabled, and operation of a full-day care center for the disabled. These policies aim to improve the quality of life of the disabled and eliminate blind spots in welfare.

Mayor Lee Sang-il said at the meeting, “Since taking office as mayor, I have worked with the determination to do my best to establish welfare policies for the disadvantaged,” and “So far, we have achieved various welfare projects such as promoting the construction of a disabled center, supporting the installation of ramps for the mobility-disadvantaged, establishing an all-day care center, opening a virtual reality sports experience center, and abolishing the deadline for lifelong learning support for the disabled.” He added, “We will continue to pool our wisdom and do our best to create a city where the disabled can live better.”

Through this meeting of the Welfare Committee for the Disabled, Yongin Special City reviewed the direction of welfare policies, discussed specific implementation plans for next year, and laid the foundation for creating a sustainable welfare environment.
