Yongin Special City will invest 452.1 billion won to expand the road and railway network and improve public transportation in the new year. In order to increase the logistics movement of Yongin, which has established itself as a semiconductor-centered city, and the convenience of citizens’ movement, the city plans to build a more dense metropolitan transportation network and actively promote major railway projects in cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

On New Year’s Day, the opening of the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway (Anseong Yongin-Guri) section made it more convenient for Yongin City to travel to the Chungcheong region and the northern part of the metropolitan area. The 26km Yongin section connects the Yongin Junction (Yangji) and the North Yongin Junction (Pogok), providing a transportation network linked to the Yeongdong Expressway and the 2nd Seoul Metropolitan Ring Line.
In the case of the Gyeongbu Expressway (Giheung IC~Yangjae IC), the full-scale process began after passing the preliminary feasibility study of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance last year. The city expects that when this expressway is completed, it will relieve congestion on the Gyeongbu Expressway and significantly improve the efficiency of logistics movement for semiconductor companies.

The expansion project for National Route 45 (Cheoin-gu Namdong ~ Anseong-si Yangseong-myeon) is also gaining momentum. This road will be expanded from 4 lanes to 8 lanes, and is being carried out with national funds, with a target completion date of 2030.
In the railway sector, three major projects, including the extension of the Gyeonggang Line, the Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway, and the Gyeonggi Southern East-West Transverse Line, are being promoted to be reflected in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The Gyeonggang Line extension is a route that connects Gyeonggi Gwangju Station to Yongin Idong and Namsa-eup and is linked to the semiconductor national industrial complex, strengthening the connection between the metropolitan area and Chungcheong region. Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway is a route for 4.2 million citizens including Yongin, Suwon, Seongnam, and Hwaseong, and is expected to contribute to relieving traffic congestion.
The Bundang Line extension project (Giheung Station – Osan University Station) is also showing visible progress as it has entered the preliminary feasibility study stage after completing the preliminary feasibility study by the Korea Railroad Corporation.
Yongin City will invest 1.1 billion won to improve the traffic system at seven intersections, including Myeongji Intersection and Kyunghee University Intersection, which are causing bottlenecks.

In addition, three public parking lots (total of 352 spaces) will be built in residential and commercial areas, and the Suji-gu Pungdeokcheon-dong Towol Public Parking Lot (113 spaces), Cheoin-gu Yeokbuk District Public Parking Lot (125 spaces), and Giheung-gu Gugal-dong Anmaeul Public Parking Lot (114 spaces) are scheduled to be newly built.
In order to improve bus operation, 720 million won will be invested to support the improvement of treatment of new transport workers, and the environment for public transportation will be improved by installing heated and cooled seats and enclosed shelters at five metropolitan bus stops, including Gangnam University Station.

Yongin Special City plans to maximize citizens’ convenience of transportation by building a dense network of roads, railways, and public transportation by 2025. Mayor Lee Sang-il said, “In order to solidify our status as a semiconductor-centered city, expanding the transportation network is essential,” and added, “We will continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and make every effort to ensure that Yongin has a metropolitan-level transportation infrastructure.”
