The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the 2024 Seoul Winter Festa, which opened on December 13, had attracted over 3.32 million visitors in just two weeks. The festival, which was held at six venues in downtown Seoul, including Gwanghwamun and Cheonggyecheon, received a great response from domestic and international visitors and established itself as a global winter festival.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 27th that the 2024 Seoul Winter Festa, which opened on December 13th, recorded 3.32 million cumulative visitors in just two weeks. This is the result of combining the number of visitors to six major downtown event venues, including Gwanghwamun, Cheonggyecheon, and Seoul Plaza.
The main attraction of this festival, Gwanghwamun’s ‘Seoul Light Gwanghwamun’, showcased a large-scale media façade with the participation of world-class media artists, and the ‘Seoul Lantern Festival’ with approximately 240 light sculptures installed along the waterway of Cheonggyecheon attracted many people’s attention. In addition, the ‘Gwanghwamun Market’ with the Santa Village concept set up in Gwanghwamun Square is popular with families.
The Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink has also become a representative winter sports attraction in Seoul, with approximately 30,000 visitors since its opening on December 20. In particular, with the ‘Discover Seoul Pass’ allowing foreign tourists to use the rink for free, the number of foreign tourists has also increased.
The interest of overseas media is also hot. Major foreign news agencies such as China’s Xinhua News Agency, Japan’s NNA, Argentina’s Panorama Directo, and Qatar’s Al Jazeera introduced the 2024 Seoul Winter Festa as a ‘representative festival where you can enjoy a safe and lively winter in Seoul’ and promoted the charm of Seoul.
On December 28, ‘Seoul Con’ will open with the participation of 3,500 influencer teams from 50 countries, introducing Seoul’s K-lifestyle to the world. In addition, from December 31 to January 1 next year, a New Year’s bell-ringing event will be held at Bosin Pavilion and DDP, which is expected to provide a special moment at the end of the year.
The 2024 Seoul Winter Festa will continue until January 5th of next year, the ‘Seoul Lantern Festival’ will run until January 12th, and the Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink will run until February 9th.
