‘World Smart City Expo’ is Asia’s largest smart city exhibition, co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Science and ICT since 2017. Every year, governments, cities, companies, experts, and citizens from around the world participate to seek solutions for sustainable cities and improving the quality of life.
Busan City plans to provide the latest technology and innovation information related to smart cities through this Expo, and in particular, to showcase the ‘Eco Delta Smart City National Model City’. Eco Delta City is a smart city currently under construction in the Myeongji-dong area of Gangseo-gu, Busan, and is attracting attention as a future city model equipped with eco-friendly technology and smart infrastructure.
In addition, Busan City plans to maximize synergy effects by simultaneously hosting ‘K-ICT WEEK in Busan’, which integrates artificial intelligence, information and communication technology (ICT), and cloud exhibitions. Through this, Busan is expected to strengthen its position as a global smart city hub and contribute to the development of related industries and job creation.
Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, “Busan is a leader in the smart city sector, ranking 13th in the world and 2nd in Asia in the Global Smart Center Index. This selection will serve as a springboard for Busan to grow into a global hub city.” He added, “We plan to showcase the ‘Eco Delta Smart City National Demonstration City,’ which will be fully developed this year, together with the ‘World Smart City Expo.’”
Meanwhile, the ‘World Smart City Expo 2024’ held last year was held from September 3rd to 5th at KINTEX in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, with approximately 31,000 people from 200 cities in 70 countries around the world participating to showcase various innovative technologies and services related to smart cities.
Through this Busan hosting, the ‘World Smart City Expo’ is expected to contribute to balanced regional development and nationwide expansion of the smart city industry beyond the metropolitan area. Busan plans to successfully host this Expo to enhance its international status in the smart city field and promote the activation of related industries.
