Cheonan City, AI quarantine all-out ahead of Lunar New Year holiday… Strengthening regional customized measures

Cheonan City announced on the 6th that it will significantly strengthen its quarantine system to prevent the inflow of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) into the region in preparation for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday. This is a measure to continue the situation in which Cheonan City has maintained a zero-outbreak situation without a single suspected case, out of a total of 20 cases nationwide since the highly pathogenic avian influenza that occurred at a poultry farm in Donghae, Gangwon Province in October of last year.

The city has established a disaster safety headquarters and is operating a quarantine situation room to maintain a rapid situation transmission and reporting system. In particular, quarantine around migratory bird arrival areas and poultry farms has been strengthened through regionally tailored quarantine measures. Two additional quarantine vehicles have been added to the existing five, for a total of seven vehicles, intensively disinfecting roads around rivers in migratory bird arrival areas and entry and exit routes to poultry farms.

As the number of vehicles is expected to increase during the Lunar New Year holiday, we have decided to provide 1,000 protective suits and 1,000 portable disinfectants to livestock vehicle drivers. This will help prevent the possibility of viruses being introduced through vehicle traffic in advance.

In addition, Director of Agriculture and Environment Lee Myeong-yeol inspected the quarantine situation in the region and further strengthened on-site response capabilities. He personally visited three disinfection facilities and three migratory bird arrival sites to check the quarantine situation, encouraged quarantine workers working in the field, and requested thorough preparation.

Director Lee said, “December to January, when the influx of migratory birds increases, is a time when highly pathogenic avian influenza rapidly increases, so strengthening quarantine within the region is more important than ever,” and “Cheonan City will do its best to thoroughly block the influx of diseases through customized special quarantine measures and maintain a stable management environment for poultry farms.”

Cheonan City will continue to strengthen its quarantine measures until the end of the Lunar New Year holiday and make every effort to maintain an AI-free region.
