Cheonan City Opens a Collaborative Platform for Carbon Neutrality

On the 23rd, Cheonan City held a discussion on the topic of ‘Cheonan City’s Carbon Neutrality Promotion Plan’ in the conference room of Cheonan City Hall, and discussed specific implementation plans to achieve the region’s carbon neutrality goal. This discussion was hosted by Cheonan City Council Construction and Urban Affairs Committee Vice Chairman Lee Byeong-ha, and was made more meaningful by the joint participation of the Climate Crisis Cheonan Emergency Action and the Chungnam Climate Energy Citizens Foundation.

About 200 people attended the event that day, exchanged various opinions, and formed a consensus on the direction of Cheonan City’s carbon neutral policy. In particular, Gwangmyeong City Green Building Support Center Director Dong-cheol Yoo and Gwangju City Policy Advisor Cheol-ho Hwang introduced cases from Gwangmyeong City and Gwangju City, respectively, and presented policy implications that Cheonan City can refer to.

In the discussion that followed, experts from related fields participated and proposed practical measures to achieve carbon neutrality centered on architecture, transportation, and citizen participation. The experts reviewed Cheonan City’s current carbon emission structure and discussed various specific measures for energy efficiency, expansion of renewable energy, and sustainable urban design.

This discussion went beyond a simple exchange of opinions and focused on citizens, experts, and government agencies working together to come up with actionable solutions. During the event, participants were provided with reusable cups as part of their eco-friendly practices, allowing them to experience the importance of protecting the environment.

Cheonan City Council member Lee Byeong-ha said, “Carbon neutrality is no longer an option, but an essential task that must be achieved,” and added, “I will do my best to ensure that the contents discussed today are reflected and implemented as actual policies.”

The participants concluded the discussion by pledging that Cheonan City will continue to cooperate and work with civil society to achieve the 2050 carbon neutrality goal. This event is expected to be an important turning point for Cheonan City to set a specific direction for achieving carbon neutrality and strengthen the cooperative system with local residents.
