‘Giheung 1st Middle School (tentative name),’ scheduled to be built at 258-2 Hagal-dong, Giheung-gu, has begun full-scale construction with the goal of opening in September 2026. The school will be built with a total of 23 classes (including 1 special class) and a capacity of 605 students, and is expected to play an important role in solving the shortage of middle schools in the Hagal-dong area.
Currently, the number of students in Hagal-dong is increasing due to the increase in the number of apartment complex residents, but there is no middle school, so students have to commute a long distance to Singal, which is inconvenient. Accordingly, parents and residents have continuously requested the establishment of a school, and this new plan is the result of reflecting that request.

After completing the purchase of the school site and the detailed design service, the Yongin Office of Education began full-scale construction on the 23rd, starting with the asbestos removal work. The demolition of the existing building is scheduled to be completed in January next year, and construction of a new school building is scheduled to begin in April.
Yongin Special City decided to build an acceleration/deceleration lane in front of the school to create a safe school environment during the school establishment process, and provided a total budget of 1.7 billion won. This is a measure that solved the problem of delays due to budget shortages, and is an important support for ensuring students’ safe commute to and from school.

Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City said, “The establishment of ‘Giheung 1 Middle School’ will solve the problem of local students commuting from long distances and contribute to creating a safe educational environment,” and added, “The city will actively support the school so that it can open normally in September 2026 and work closely with the Office of Education.”
The city also plans to continue its efforts to improve school routes and create a safe environment in the area, along with establishing schools.
