Dongdaemun-gu received the highest grade in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s ‘2024 Local Government Financial Analysis and Evaluation ‘ , and its financial management capabilities were recognized nationwide . The district stood out in the ‘ Comprehensive Sector ‘ and ‘ Fiscal Soundness ‘ sectors, solidifying its position as an autonomous district with excellent finances .

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluated 14 financial indicators in three areas: fiscal soundness ( fiscal balance , debt management, etc. ), efficiency ( budget execution , tax management, etc. ), and planning ( mid- to long-term financial plan , investment review, etc. ) for local governments nationwide based on their 2023 performance .
Dongdaemun-gu received the highest grade, ‘ A grade ‘ , in the ‘ comprehensive sector ‘ that evaluates the comprehensive performance of local financial management . In particular, it is a grade that only two out of 25 autonomous districts in Seoul were selected for , clearly proving Dongdaemun-gu’s financial management capability and efficiency .
Dongdaemun-gu received high marks for significantly increasing the local tax collection rate and actively securing external financial resources from the central government and Seoul Metropolitan Government to manage its finances soundly . External financial resources refer to support funds such as subsidies and grants , and the district strengthened its financial soundness by effectively utilizing them .
This achievement is the result of the district’s efforts to increase revenue and reduce unnecessary expenditures even in difficult circumstances such as an economic recession . The Ministry of the Interior and Safety acknowledged the efficiency of this financial management and gave Dongdaemun-gu the highest grade in the ‘ Fiscal Soundness ’ category .
Dongdaemun-gu announced that it will not rest on its laurels but will continue to maintain financial soundness and carry out efficient and planned financial management .
Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung emphasized , “ This result is the fruition of our continuous efforts to use residents’ taxes efficiently and manage the district’s finances stably, ” and “ We will continue to do our best to manage finances in a sound and efficient manner . ”
Dongdaemun-gu is a model for other local governments by achieving top-level performance in the financial sector . The district plans to continue sustainable and trustworthy financial management based on its sense of financial responsibility for its residents .
