Duruta Bus, greatly improved convenience with introduction of call bell

Sejong Special Self-Governing City (Mayor Choi Min-ho) announced that it will introduce a new call bell service to greatly improve the convenience of using the Duruta Bus, a demand-responsive transportation system currently in operation for residents of townships. This service will be applied first to 84 bus stops in Yeondong, Bugang, and Jeondong-myeon, and will begin pilot operation on the 31st. This is to provide an easier way for the elderly and residents who have difficulty using smart devices to use the Duruta Bus.

Call bell, a new way to use the Duruta Bus

The existing Duruta Bus has provided real-time call services through smartphone apps and call centers (☎1877-5712). However, there were difficulties in use among the elderly who are not familiar with smartphone use and residents with limited technological access. To compensate for this, the call bell introduced connects immediately to the call center with a single button, and provides real-time confirmation of the number of passengers and information on vehicle arrival times.

In particular, this call bell installation was carried out in key locations such as community centers with high usage frequency. Through this measure, Sejong City aims to establish the Duruta Bus as a means of transportation that can be used by more residents.

Service integration through integrated transportation platform ‘Eung Pass’

With the introduction of this call bell, the existing private Duruta app will be integrated into Sejong City’s integrated transportation platform, the ‘Eungpass’ app. Through this, users will be able to conveniently manage not only Duruta buses but also various transportation methods in a single app. The city expects that these improvements will increase residents’ accessibility to public transportation and further increase the utilization of Duruta buses.

Solving traffic problems in towns and villages: the role of the Duruta Bus

The Duruta Bus has been in operation since 2019 to alleviate transportation inconveniences for residents in towns and villages. In particular, since the introduction of the real-time reservation call service in the Yeondong, Bugang, and Jeondong areas in October of last year, it has received a great response from residents, with the average number of monthly users exceeding 9,000.

Mayor Choi Min-ho said, “Sejong City is a leading city in smart mobility, and is receiving nationwide attention for its demand-responsive transportation such as the Duruta Bus,” and emphasized, “We will continue to do our best to improve services so that residents can use public transportation more easily and conveniently.”

Duruta Bus, a Leading Model of Future Transportation

Sejong City’s introduction of the call bell and connection to the integrated transportation platform is evaluated as an example of innovative changes in the transportation use of local residents, while also suggesting a new model of demand-responsive transportation. Through this, Sejong City is taking a step forward in improving transportation accessibility and convenience, and practically guaranteeing the right to mobility for residents of townships.
