First public disclosure of information on approximately 4,000 lifelong education facilities nationwide

The Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education announced information on lifelong education facilities nationwide for the first time on December 31, 2024. This was implemented in accordance with the revised Lifelong Education Act and its enforcement decree, and was initiated with the purpose of guaranteeing learners’ right to know and increasing the accountability and transparency of lifelong education facilities.

There are a total of 4,066 lifelong education facilities that have been announced, of which 388 are under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Education and the remaining 3,678 are under the jurisdiction of the provincial superintendents of education. The announced information includes detailed information in 32 categories and 87 scopes, including facility name, curriculum, number of students, education hours, and tuition, and is classified by facility type into high school and lower level accredited facilities, junior college and university accredited facilities, and other lifelong education facilities.

Public information can be found on the comprehensive lifelong education portal, ‘All National Lifelong Learning Center (http://www.all.go.kr)’. This platform has been in pilot operation since August 2024, and provides facility information by region and type in the data room, and anyone can download it without separate membership registration.

This allows learners to check the curriculum, education period, and tuition information of each lifelong education facility at a glance, making it easy to choose a lifelong education program that suits them. In particular, for high school and lower level academic institutions, detailed data such as school operation, student changes, facility status, and facilities for the disabled are updated once a year or at any time. Junior colleges and university academic institutions provide academic operation information such as grade evaluation results, graduate career paths, and faculty status, while other lifelong education facilities include information such as curriculum and instructor lists.

The Ministry of Education plans to establish a ‘Lifelong Education Facility Notification (tentative name)’ system to improve the quality of information disclosure. Through this, the accuracy and efficiency of information will be further improved and the disclosure system will be unified. Choi Eun-hee, Director of the Human Resources Policy Office, said, “This information disclosure will be an opportunity to guarantee learners’ right to know and strengthen the transparency and reliability of lifelong education facilities,” and added, “We will continue to improve the system to provide more useful information to the public.”

This announcement is expected to be a major turning point in expanding lifelong education opportunities for the public and creating a learner-centered lifelong education environment.
