Gangseo-gu, 2025 Year of the Snake Sunrise Event Held… 5,000 Residents Welcome the New Year

Seoul Gangseo-gu (Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon) will hold the ‘2025 Year of the Sheep Sunrise Event’ at the peak of Gaehwasan Mountain on January 1st. This event was prepared to wish for the health and happiness of Gangseo-gu residents and to announce a hopeful new start for Gangseo-gu.

Various performances and New Year’s wish programs

The event will begin at 6:40 a.m. with a pre-event featuring beautiful poetry readings, lively street performances, and fusion traditional Korean music performances. The main event will include three rounds of “Daebuk Riding” to ward off misfortune and pray for health and wealth, a 3D media opening performance, a reading of a New Year’s message from Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon, and interviews with residents about their New Year’s wishes.

At 7:47 a.m., the scheduled sunrise time, a ‘Sunrise Countdown Event’ will be held, where participants will count down together, watch the first sunrise of the new year, and share good words.

Around the event venue, various side events will also be held, such as writing New Year’s wishes and family mottos, sending wish postcards, and taking pictures in the photo zone.

All-out effort to prevent safety accidents

The city has completed thorough preparations to prevent safety accidents in preparation for this event, which is expected to attract about 5,000 participants. A joint inspection team has been formed with Gangseo Fire Station, Gangseo Police Station, Korea Electric Safety Corporation, and Korea Gas Safety Corporation, and will conduct a pre-inspection on site on December 31, the day before the event.

On the day of the event, safety facilities will be installed on the main course of Gaehwasan Mountain and 84 safety personnel will be deployed to maintain order. An additional public health center ambulance and a private ambulance will be operated, and the Gaehwasan 119 Safety Center will monitor the site to prepare for fires and accidents. In addition, a temporary parking lot will be built at Bangwon Middle School to minimize traffic congestion.

Mayor’s New Year’s Message

Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon said, “I hope that in the new year of 2025, the year of Eulsa, all of the dreams and hopes of our residents will come true along with the shining sunrise of Gaehwasan Mountain,” and added, “I will do my best to make Gangseo a better place to live based on the advice and wishes of our residents.”
