Gapyeong-gun recently established an urban regeneration strategy plan with the approval of Gyeonggi-do , and based on this, laid the foundation for promoting urban regeneration projects in both revitalized and declining areas . On the 26th , Gyeonggi-do announced that it had finally approved the ‘2033 Gapyeong-gun Urban Regeneration Strategy Plan ( draft )’ applied for by Gapyeong-gun . This plan is aimed at solving the problems of aging buildings and stagnant commercial districts in downtown areas , and focuses on designating urban regeneration activation areas and establishing various promotion strategies .

With this approval, Gapyeong-gun has finally designated the area around Yeoul Market in Cheongpyeong-myeon and Jatgoeul Market in Gapyeong-eup as revitalization areas . These areas are expected to become important bases where local residents and merchants can participate together to promote urban regeneration projects . Gapyeong-gun has set forth a vision of “ Gapyeong, a healing city of culture and leisure where living spaces, workplaces , culture, and residents come together ” and established this plan based on the results of a comprehensive analysis of the decline in the area .
In order to promote urban regeneration projects, Gapyeong-gun has established a plan to establish governance such as an urban regeneration promotion team, an urban regeneration support center , and a resident and merchant council . This also includes a plan to secure public and private funds , which is expected to increase the sustainability of the project . In addition to revitalized areas, Gapyeong-gun has laid the foundation for promoting regional development through various projects such as ‘ Reviving Our Neighborhood ’ in declining areas .
Since 2018 , Gyeonggi Province has been providing provincial funding and expert consulting to cities and counties to actively promote urban regeneration projects . This support is greatly helping to establish urban regeneration strategies tailored to the characteristics and needs of each region . Ahn Seong-hyeon, head of the Gyeonggi Province Regeneration Planning Team, said, “ Based on the recently approved Gapyeong-gun Urban Regeneration Strategy Plan, urban regeneration projects that meet the expectations of local residents will be stably promoted . ”
Gapyeong-gun’s urban regeneration strategy plan will go beyond simple regional revitalization and will be implemented in a way that residents directly participate and lead . This is also connected to the Gyeonggi Dream Regeneration Project, in which the resident community proposes various ideas that fit the local conditions .
