Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) held the ‘2024 Goyang City Environmental Policy Committee Meeting’ in the city hall conference room on the 23rd. This meeting was organized to discuss environmental issues in Goyang City, with 24 people in attendance, including 1st Vice Mayor Park Won-seok as the chairperson, city council members, civil servants, and environmental experts.
Goyang City Environmental Policy Committee is an organization that deliberates and advises on environmental policies with the goal of creating a healthy and pleasant living environment for citizens.
The main agenda items discussed at this meeting included ▲disclosure of the 2024 Goyang City Environmental White Paper ▲improvement plan for the operation of the Jang Hang Wetland Ecological Center ▲basic plan for environmental education (draft).
2024 Environmental White Paper Released
The 2024 Goyang City Environmental White Paper is a systematic compilation of environmental policies, major achievements, and future development directions that have been implemented so far. This white paper is designed to help citizens understand Goyang City’s environmental policies and secure trust in policy implementation.
Discussion on improving the operation of Jang Hang Wetland Ecological Center
The Jang Hang Wetland Ecological Center is currently in temporary operation and is about to open for business. At this meeting, various opinions were presented on the direction of the ecological center operation and improvement measures, and specific plans will be drawn up with the goal of activating environmental education and experience programs in the future.
Jang Hang Wetland is an area with high ecological value, and it is planned to be used as an educational center where citizens can learn about and practice the importance of environmental protection through the eco-center.
Discussion of basic environmental education plan
The meeting also discussed the basic plan for environmental education in Goyang City. The main focus was on spreading a sustainable environmental culture through systematic operation of environmental education programs and expansion of citizen participation.
City officials said, “We will actively reflect the opinions discussed at this environmental policy committee and promote effective environmental policies,” and “We expect that the environmental white paper and Jang Hang Wetland Ecological Center will play an important role in raising citizens’ environmental awareness.”
Goyang City plans to strengthen environmental governance in which citizens, experts, and administration work closely together to promote sustainable environmental policies in the future.
