Goyang Special City held the ‘2024 Traffic Signal Operation Management Service Final Report Meeting’ and announced the results of the traffic signal system improvement. It was found that this improvement had tangible effects such as an increase in average travel speed and a reduction in economic costs.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it held the ‘2024 Traffic Signal Operation Management Service Final Report Meeting’ in the Traffic Policy Conference Room of the first annex of the city hall on the 18th.
This report meeting was attended by officials from the Goyang City Traffic Policy Division, Goyang Police Station, Ilsan East Police Station, Ilsan West Police Station, and other police officers and service providers. They reviewed the performance of improving traffic signal operation and discussed future operation directions.
The 2024 traffic signal operation management service was promoted to improve citizens’ traffic convenience and safety and alleviate road congestion problems. The city improved the traffic signal system at 442 out of 1,411 intersections and 7 major arterial roads including Gobong-ro.
◇ Key Achievements
Results of improved traffic signal operation on 7 major arterial roads (total 17.94 km section) including Gobong-ro:
Average travel speed: 5.2 km/h increase
Delay time: 23.8 sec/km reduced
Number of stops: Average 1.0 times/unit decrease
◇ Economic effects
The annual economic savings resulting from improved traffic signal systems are as follows:
Vehicle operation cost savings: 1.667 billion won
Environmental savings: 256 million won
Time value savings: KRW 4.983 billion
Total savings: approximately KRW 6.906 billion
This is an achievement that has created real economic benefits as a result of alleviating traffic congestion through improved traffic flow and efficient signal operation.
City officials said, “This traffic signal operation management improvement project is an important achievement for improving citizens’ transportation convenience and creating a safe transportation environment,” and added, “We will continue to work with related organizations such as police stations to continuously improve and optimize the traffic signal system.”
Goyang City plans to continue to focus on improving the traffic environment that citizens can feel through the introduction of a cutting-edge traffic management system and continuous monitoring.
