Goyang City to Hold 2024 Food Policy Forum

Goyang Special City held the ‘2024 Goyang City Food Policy Forum’ on the 23rd and presented a future vision for the food industry. At the forum, the basic plan for fostering the coffee industry and the operation plan for the advanced food technology (food tech) industry support group were announced, and food industry fostering measures were discussed through expert discussions.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) held the ‘2024 Goyang City Food Policy Forum’ at the Baekseok Annex of Goyang City Hall on the 23rd. About 50 people including the Goyang City Food Committee, consumer groups, and food industry experts attended this forum, and discussed various policies and plans under the theme of ‘The Future of Goyang City’s Food Industry.’

This forum was organized to share the results of the implementation of Goyang City’s food policy and to build public consensus on new policy projects.

◆ Part 1: Policy announcement and sharing of best practices
In Part 1, Moon Yoo-joo, head of the Agricultural Products Distribution Team at Goyang City Hall, announced the **’Basic Plan for Fostering the Coffee Industry’** and the **’Advanced Food Technology (Food Tech) Industry Support Group Operation Plan’**.

  • Basic Plan for Fostering the Coffee Industry: Under the vision of ‘1 million people, 1,000 kinds of coffee! Goyang, a coffee city leading local coffee culture,’ four major strategies and 12 tasks were presented.
  • Operation of the Advanced Food Technology (Foodtech) Industry Support Group: Through a cooperative relationship with Dongguk University, we plan to actively foster the advanced food technology industry, including supporting startup growth and establishing a system for entering overseas markets.

Next, Ilsan Agricultural Cooperative Local Food Center Director Oh Hyeon-seok presented **’Excellent Cases of Local Food Industrialization’**, and Consumers’ Citizens’ Association Goyang Branch Education Director Choi Jeong-sun presented **’Excellent Cases of Creating Food Consumption Culture’**, sharing the importance of local food and success stories.

◆ Part 2: Expert Discussion
In Part 2, Director Hong-Sang Kim of the Agricultural Policy Research Center served as the moderator, and experts from various fields participated in an in-depth discussion.

  • Director of Coffee Science, Hwang Ho-rim: Coffee Industry Technology

  • Kim Eui-soo, CEO of K-Bridge Insight Co., Ltd.: Agricultural and processed food sector

The panelists shared their opinions on topics such as sustainable development of the food industry, introduction of cutting-edge technologies, and fostering of regional specialized industries, and the various implementation plans discussed will be actively reflected in the future Goyang-type food industry policy.

◆ Vision of Goyang City’s food industry
Goyang City plans to lead the local coffee culture to foster the coffee industry and actively support the growth of startups and cutting-edge food technology companies through the Food Tech Industry Support Group.

Goyang Special City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “The food industry is one of the key industries of the future,” and added, “Based on the success stories of local food, Goyang City will discover second and third food industries and move forward to become a more livable city.”
