Goyang Special City won the public sector ‘Climate Action Award’ at the 1st OBS Climate Action Awards. This is a result of recognition for the excellence of its citizen participation-based carbon-neutral project and sustainable eco-city policy.

Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it won the public sector ‘Climate Action Award’ at the ‘1st OBS Climate Action Awards’ ceremony held at the OBS Gyeongin TV Studio in Bucheon City on the 18th.
The OBS Climate Action Awards is an awards ceremony held for the first time this year, designed to recognize the achievements of individuals and organizations that have contributed to responding to the climate crisis and preserving the environment, and to raise awareness of climate action among the public.
This awards ceremony was divided into the Grand Prize, Special Prize, and Climate Action Prize, and a total of six local governments including Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Suwon City, Gwangmyeong City, and Ansan City were selected for the Public Sector Climate Action Prize. In addition, a total of 20 recipients including individuals, companies, and organizations were recognized as the main actors of climate action.
Goyang City has been actively promoting various carbon-neutral projects that citizens can experience and directly participate in, such as connecting the ecological axis in the city center, the voluntary civic movement ‘Goyang River Network’, the Carbon Neutral Citizens’ Action Solidarity, operating a climate environment school, and a resource recycling store. These efforts have proven its excellence as an ‘eco-city’ and have earned it the honor of this award.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City said, “Goyang City has been working steadily to respond to the climate crisis and create a sustainable carbon-neutral city,” and added, “This award is a valuable recognition of our efforts. We will continue to do our best to overcome the climate crisis together with our citizens.”
Meanwhile, Goyang City has been continuously standing out in the environmental and climate crisis response sectors, including winning the ▲ESG Korea Awards Special Award this year, ▲Ministry of Environment Green City Environment Minister’s Award, and ▲2024 Local Government Carbon Neutral Excellent Organization Selection.
Goyang City plans to expand various carbon-neutral policies based on citizen participation in the future and strengthen public relations activities to raise awareness of the seriousness of the climate crisis.
