Yongin Special City will conduct a pilot project utilizing sludge dehydrator chemical mixing auxiliary equipment until June next year to increase the efficiency of sewage sludge treatment and reduce operating costs. This project is expected to have an annual cost saving effect of at least 170 million won and environmental benefits at the same time.

Yongin Special City announced on the 26th that it will implement a pilot project to increase the efficiency of sewage sludge treatment by installing a sludge dehydrator chemical mixing auxiliary facility. The pilot project will run for approximately 6 months until June of next year, and will verify the effects of improving sludge moisture content and reducing waste treatment costs.
This pilot project focuses on improving the water content of sludge by increasing the efficiency of chemical mixing in the sewage treatment process. A lower water content reduces the amount of sludge generated, which reduces waste treatment costs and the operating costs of sewage treatment facilities. The city expects that this will reduce treatment costs by at least 170 million won per year.
City officials said, “This pilot project will be conducted free of charge, and we expect that it will not only reduce sewage treatment costs but also significantly improve the stability of the water quality that is discharged,” adding, “Based on the performance of the project, we will review ways to expand the application of the same technology to other sewage treatment facilities in the region.”
The city plans to establish a mid- to long-term sewage treatment plan based on the results of the pilot project and strengthen sustainable environmental management policies.
