Incheon Metropolitan City Jung-gu Office (District Mayor Kim Jeong-heon) Sports Department’s fencing team member, Mo Byeol-i, won a bronze medal as a member of the Korean women’s national team at the 2024 International Fencing Federation (FIE) World Cup Foil Team Event, proving the potential of Korean fencing on the international stage.
This competition was held in Tunis, Tunisia on November 24 (local time), and the Korean women’s foil team, consisting of Mo Byeol, Hong Se-na (Ansan City Hall), Park Ji-hee (Seoul City Hall), and Lee Se-ju (Chungbuk Provincial Office), came in third place after a fierce match. In particular, the 3rd-4th place match against France in the medal match was a dramatic close match. The Korean team won by a narrow margin of 37:36 and earned a valuable medal.
The Korean team showed outstanding performance in this competition. They were on the rise in the round of 16, beating China 45:32, and in the quarterfinals, they defeated Romania 45:32 to advance to the semifinals. Unfortunately, they lost to Japan 27:45 in the semifinals, but achieved a dramatic victory in the medal match, their first feat in 9 years in an international competition.

Kim Jeong-heon, the mayor of Jung-gu, said, “I am proud that Mo Byeol, who is already considered the future of Korean fencing at a young age, and the women’s foil team have achieved such great results,” and added, “I hope that they finish the season well without any major injuries and that they will continue to shine in 2025.”
This medal win has once again put Korean fencing in the spotlight in international competitions, and has also raised expectations for the athletes’ future performances.
