Yongin Special City announced on the 24th that it has requested participation in vaccinations and compliance with personal hygiene rules as an influenza epidemic warning has been issued nationwide. According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, from the 8th to the 14th, the number of influenza infections per 1,000 people was 13.6, exceeding the epidemic standard of 8.6.

The city health center recommends vaccination to prevent the spread of infection. The recently prevalent influenza strain has been found to be similar to the vaccine strain recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), so vaccination can be expected to have a high preventive effect.

Those eligible for vaccination support include ▲children aged 6 months to 13 years ▲pregnant women ▲senior citizens aged 65 years and older, and among Yongin Special Citizens, ▲those aged 60 to 64 years ▲those receiving medical and livelihood benefits and those with disabilities aged 14 to 59 years can be vaccinated at designated medical institutions, ▲mothers within 6 months of giving birth ▲patients with rare diseases, tuberculosis, and AIDS can be vaccinated at public health centers. In particular, senior citizens aged 65 years and older can be vaccinated for COVID-19 and influenza at the same time.

Designated medical institutions where vaccinations are available can be checked on the Yongin Special City website or the vaccination assistant (nip.kdca.go.kr).

A health center official said, “There is a possibility that the winter influenza epidemic will worsen,” and urged, “Citizens who have not yet been vaccinated should hurry and get vaccinated.” They also emphasized the need to follow basic respiratory infection prevention rules such as washing hands after going out, practicing cough etiquette, wearing a mask when experiencing respiratory symptoms, and ventilating enclosed spaces.

Yongin Special City requested citizens’ active cooperation, saying that vaccination and personal hygiene are the most important ways to prevent the spread of influenza.
