Jongno-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Moon-heon) was honored with being selected as the best local government in the “2024 National Mental Investment Support Project” hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

The National Mental Investment Support Project aims to promote mental health by providing professional psychological examinations and counseling services to citizens suffering from psychological difficulties such as depression and anxiety. The Ministry of Health and Welfare evaluated 229 cities, counties, and districts nationwide, including three major indicators and eight items: service application rate, service utilization rate, low-income participation rate, and dedicated organization and personnel operation. The evaluation period was from July to October last year, and Jongno-gu was selected as the best local government for its high performance.

Jongno-gu has been providing various services to promote mental health of residents through this project since July 2024. Applications are accepted at the community center and the Welfare Center, and after screening, the target is selected and a voucher is provided for a total of 8 times, 50 minutes per session. The purpose of this service is to help residents suffering from emotional difficulties receive professional counseling.

In addition, Jongno-gu is also running a ‘mental health checkup and counseling support project’ for residents who complain of severe stress and depression. This project is designed to find psychological risk factors early, and applicants can receive psychological tests and counseling at one of the 13 medical institutions designated by Jongno-gu. Afterwards, additional support such as drug treatment or in-depth counseling is provided based on the test results.

A Jongno-gu official said, “This selection as the best local government is the result of our continuous efforts to ensure the mental health of our residents,” and added, “We will spare no administrative or financial support to ensure that all residents can receive the psychological counseling and support they need.”
