Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Gil-seong Kim) has achieved national results by standing out in the field of mental health throughout 2024. In the ‘National Mental Investment Support Project Excellent Local Government Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare at the end of November, it was honored with the ‘Grand Prize’ among 229 cities, counties, and districts nationwide.
The ‘National Mental Investment Support Project’ is a voucher support project that provides professional psychological counseling services to residents suffering from emotional difficulties such as depression and anxiety. Jung-gu received high praise for promoting the project by focusing on the convenience of residents, such as simplifying the application process and suggesting system improvements. In particular, it was noted as an exemplary case that improved accessibility to counseling by providing meticulous support to reduce psychological burden by accompanying employees to the psychological counseling center when visiting for the first time and providing incentives to recognize education hours through cooperation with related organizations.
In addition, Jung-gu was selected as an ‘Excellent Organization in Seoul Mental Health Management Project’ for the second consecutive year earlier this month, showing an exemplary case of mental health welfare project operation among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
Last September, Jung-gu Mental Health Welfare Center also received the highest grade (S) for the second consecutive year in the ‘2024 Basic Mental Health Welfare Center Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. This evaluation targets 238 mental health welfare centers nationwide, and Jung-gu recorded the highest score among the autonomous districts of Seoul, proving its national competitiveness in the mental health field.
Kim Gil-seong, the mayor of Jung-gu, emphasized, “Mental health is one of the most important factors for the happy life of residents,” and added, “We will continue to promote various mental health projects and actively discover necessary policies to protect the healthy and stable daily lives of residents.”
Currently, Jung-gu Public Health Center and Jung-gu Mental Health Welfare Center are operating various programs such as mental health counseling, evaluation, and education for not only Jung-gu residents but also office workers and students in Jung-gu.
