This year’s event will begin at 7 a.m. at the Jatjeol Waterworks Badminton Court with the sharing of wish handkerchiefs and warm tea, and will last approximately two hours.

The main event will begin at 7:30 AM at the Maebongsan peak, with New Year’s greetings from Guro-gu Acting Mayor Eom Eui-sik and other guests, reading of congratulatory poems, beating of drums, watching the sunrise, congratulatory performances, and waving of wish handkerchiefs.

During the event, a photo zone will be operated at the entrance of Maebongsan Mountain where you can capture your New Year’s moments with photos featuring the Guro-gu Social Network Service (SNS) characters.

In addition, a bulletin board will be set up where people can write down their New Year’s wishes with family and friends and hang them up.

The city is making every effort to ensure safety by conducting safety management meeting and preliminary on-site inspection prior to the event.

In particular, in preparation for a sudden influx of crowds, we plan to strengthen the cooperative system with related organizations such as police stations and fire stations, and deploy guides at key points from the starting point to the summit on the day of the event.

From the night before the event until the end, illegal parking will be cracked down on on the road leading to the event venue (Southern Ring Road – Gaebong Middle School) and in front of the main gate of Gaebong Middle School. When visiting the event venue, parking is limited, so it is recommended to use public transportation if possible.

A Guro-gu official said, “We are preparing safely and thoroughly so that everyone can spend meaningful time together watching the first sunrise of the new year,” and added, “We hope for a lot of interest and participation.”
